The Grove at GPAC - Site design
The venue will be the only intimate outdoor performance venue in the region that can relocate a performance to an adjacent indoor performance theatre due to inclement weather.
The patrons, performers, and supporting participants will experience performances within the canopy of old growth trees. It will anchor a lost corner that will become the bridge point between a vehicular-laden City and a City of green, enhancing the walkability and connectivity of the community.
Innovative architecture, hardscape, landscape, and lighting will provide a multi-functional facility for programmed events and non-performance-related uses. At night, the stage will come alive with color, light, and sound. This will truly be a unique experience.
Seven elements are proposed to craft this experience. They include The Park as an overall place holder of GPAC and its supporting programs, The Parking which achieves the much needed spaces to support GPAC and the Athletic Club, The Front Door Plaza that unifies GPAC venues and welcomes patrons, The Pavilion that provides immediate access to offices, venue entries, and an expanded prefunction/art gallery/rental space, The Grove which is a one-of-a-kind outdoor performance space, The Outdoor Balcony that is elevated for special group activities and views, The Backstage Plaza that brings purpose and life to the Germantown Parkway viewshed.
