Urban Child Institute
Urban Child Institute strives to be a recognized leader in child advocacy, a trustworthy community partner, and a source of support for like-minded organizations. They decided to move into a newly renovated distribution center, more centrally located in the city where they would be among like-minded organizations and community.
A set of design conditions establish the paint colors to accentuate the banding and existing context. Walls meeting a tectum-clad ceiling are white, while walls meeting a concrete ceiling are pale blue—selected to evoke peacefulness required during childcare. Harmonious detailing of two-inch wall base, storefront sills, and door frames reflects the straightforward and intentional goals of the organization.
