Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium - Vision Plan
archimania + HKS + Olin
The Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium project aimed to define the next iteration of this historic stadium and focus on the response to the city’s RFQ. The site is located in the heart of Midtown at the former Mid-South Fairgrounds.
Based on our team’s collective understanding of Memphis sports culture, technology and consumer behaviors, our vision is grounded in the existing building’s DNA of a single tier mid-century modern structure. Keeping team spirit in mind, the design reflects an inherent callback to the University’s mascot, the Tigers.
Together, we re-imagined a renovation of Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium that would be uniquely authentic, more affordable, flexible, and a 360-degree venue that is an elite game day experience. The heart of being more affordable would lie in embracing a less non-invasive design ethos that repurposes the existing concrete super structure while providing the first 360 degree premium “closer is better”, FBS experience in a renovated stadium.
Our strategy honors the venue’s iconic formal qualities and thoughtfully introduce modern amenities required to enhance the experience, perform at higher levels and propel the reinvented venue as a leader in its multi-functional collegiate/professional configurations; as experienced in SoFi Stadium.
